REC Strategy

This document represents the strategy of the REC for the period 2011 to 2015, as approved by the Board of Directors. The document was drafted under the continuous guidance of the REC's Board of Directors, taking into consideration discussions and recommendations at the General Assembly in 2009 and 2010 and the comments and suggestions of senior officials/signatories and key stakeholders. The strategy is based on the 2010 declaration of the signatories of the REC on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the foundation of the REC. It reflects the results of the internal and external assessments of the activities and products of the organisation over the last five years, including the implementation of the strategy for 2006 to 2010.

The strategy does not represent a comprehensive work plan. Rather, it defines the priority issues on which the REC must focus over the next five years. The REC needs to preserve and build upon its achievements to date and, at the same time, open up new avenues in line with the identified key directions for future work.

In order to address the environmental and sustainability challenges of its beneficiary regions, the REC will streamline resources towards two main directions of work in the period 2011 to 2015: governance for sustainability; and green economy.
