The project is contracted by the Bulgarian Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works through PHARE –CBC Programme. The activities of the project are implemented by the international consortium: AGRECO, The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe and DICON consultant group.

This project is designed as a continuation of the project "West Stara Planina for Kids" implemented by REC in the period November 2007 - November 2008. The goal of creating a trademark of the textbook"Region for kids" will be developed in this project . "Conservation of biodiversity around us is our concern" is the message that the brand will promote mostly in the economically underdeveloped but rich in natural resources frontier areas. Implementing the results of the previous project in the mountains Osogovo, Ograzhden and Belasitsa is an ambitious task that sets this project.

Project “Raising the Awareness on Environmental Issues through Education on Sustainable Development and Volunteer Bio-monitoring of Zlatna Panega River – Adopt the River”

June, 2014 -

Initiated was the project “Raising the Awareness on Environmental Issues through Education on Sustainable Development and Volunteer Bio-monitoring of Zlatna Panega River – Adopt the River”. The beneficiary in termsof this project is the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe – branch Bulgaria, with partners: Zlatna Panega Cement JSC, the Regional History Museum, Professional High School for Agriculture "Sergey Rumyantsev" and Environmental and Public Health Office, Kjos, Iceland. The approved grant amounts to € 20,804 and the total value of the project amounts to € 21,702.

The project is funded under the Programme BG03 "Biodiversity and ecosystems", financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (FM of EEA 2009-2014). The Programme Operator is the Ministry of the Environment and Water of Bulgaria.

Natura 2000 is one of the EU tools for nature conservation and sustainable development at European and national level. The ecological network introduces the idea of ​​nature conservation in all of the spheres of the social and economic life and preservation of the traditional relationship between the man and his environment. In Bulgaria Natura 2000 covers 114 protected sites (PS) for birds and 225 protected sites for habitats which is approximately 34% of the territory of Bulgaria. Natura 2000 covers a significant amount of coastal waters as well.
