On June 3, 2016, at the West Aegean River Basin Directorate (WARBD) – Blagoevgrad, was held a meeting with the stakeholders in terms of the project “Assessment of the combined effects of hydropower on the ecosystems and the ecological status of rivers – ANCHOR”.

On May 30, 2016, at the East Aegean River Basin Directorate (EARBD) – Plovdiv, was held a meeting of the stakeholders in terms of the project “Assessment of the combined effects of hydropower on the ecosystems and the ecological status of rivers – ANCHOR”.



National Conference "Capacity building and models for stakeholder participation in the management of Natura 2000 protected sites in Bulgaria"

The National Conference "Capacity building and models for stakeholder participation in the management of Natura 2000 protected sites in Bulgaria" was held on December 15, 2015, in the Central Military Club, Sofia.
The event was organized within a project funded by the Bulgarian  Swiss Cooperation Programme, which was implemented within the period of three years by Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe – branch Bulgaria.

Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe - Branch Bulgaria in collaboration with the cement plant "Zlatna Panega Cement" JSC launched a series of educational initiatives to raise awareness of the ecological status of the rivers located near industrial plants.

Building and reinforcing environmental bridges between Europe and the MENA region

The efforts of the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe to build environmental cooperation between Europe and the MENA region reached another pivotal success. At the beginning of October 2015 a delegation led by the Executive Director of REC - Martha Bonifert, met with the Tunisian Minister of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Fisheries - Saad Seddik, in terms of the Water SUM project.

On 10 and 11 June 2015 in the Conference Center of REC in Szentendre, Hungary was held the 25th anniversary of the Regional Environmental Center under the slogan 'Regions for a Sustainable Future". The event was held under the patronage of the President of Hungary - Mr. Janos Ader, and was attended by representatives at the highest level from over 30 countries.

At the official event Republic of Bulgaria was represented by Her Excellency Mrs. Biserka Benisheva - Ambassador of Bulgaria in Hungary, Mr. Krasimir Zhivkov - Deputy Minister of Environment and Water, Ms. Detelina Peicheva - expert in the Ministry of Environment and Water and a member of the General Assembly of the REC.

The fourth final cycle of regional meetings on the project "Capacity building and models for stakeholder participation in the management of Natura 2000 protected sites in Bulgaria" was successfully completed.

The fourth final cycle of regional meetings on the project "Capacity building and models for stakeholder participation in the management of Natura 2000 protected sites in Bulgaria" was successfully completed. The focus of these meetings was to establish and implement a mechanism for management of the Natura 2000 protected sites in the three pilot regions of the project – Kocherinovo, Western Stara Planina and Western Rhodopes.

The consecutive cycle of meetings, which are held in the pilot regions under the project "Capacity building and models for stakeholder participation in the management of Natura 2000 protected sites in Bulgaria" ended successfully.

The topic of the meeting was focused on the creation of a mechanism for the management of the Natura 2000 protected sites in the three pilot regions of the project – Kocherinovo, Western Stara Planina and Western Rhodopes.

The second cycle of regional meetings under the project “Capacity building and models for stakeholder participation in the management of Natura 2000 protected sites in Bulgaria” is completed.

The second cycle of regional meetings on the project "Capacity building and models for stakeholder participation in the management of Natura 2000 protected sites in Bulgaria " is a fact. The topic of these meetings was related to the creation of a vision for the management of the protected sites from the network Natura 2000.

The first cycle of regional meetings under the project “Capacity building and models for stakeholder participation in the management of Natura 2000 protected sites in Bulgaria” is completed.

Regional Environmental Center held several meetings in the three pilot regions for the project "Capacity Building and models for the participation of stakeholders in the management of Natura 2000 protected sites in Bulgaria". With these visits, we were able to bring together the stakeholders involved in the management of the protected sites in the Natura 2000 network in Bulgaria.
