Meeting of the stakeholders in terms of the project “Assessment of the combined effects of hydropower on the ecosystems and the ecological status of rivers – ANCHOR”
On June 3, 2016, at the West Aegean River Basin Directorate (WARBD) – Blagoevgrad, was held a meeting with the stakeholders in terms of the project “Assessment of the combined effects of hydropower on the ecosystems and the ecological status of rivers – ANCHOR”. The meeting was opened by the project manager Ventzislav Vassilev with a brief introduction and a presentation of the project.
The participants of the meeting were informed about foreign experience for the purposes of the project.
It was also presented a working version of the methodology for assessing the eligibility for the construction of hydropower plants with emphasis on discussion points mentioned in the so far received opinions.
Presented were the preliminary results of the pilot testing of the proposed methodology, which were prepared by the West Aegean River Basin Directorate.
During the discussion, the participants of the meeting expressed their comments and recommendations in order to improve the work of the expert team and the applicability of the results.
The participants supported the general approach and principles proposed in the project for assessment of the eligibility for the construction of hydropower plants. It was stated that the need for such a project was identified long ago and its results will be beneficial for both the control institutions and the stakeholders.
